The class 91 was built between 1988 and 1990 specifically for the East Coast Mainline
(ECML). They operate paired with class 82 driving van trailers (DVTs).
The class 82 is esentially a dummy locomotive with the same controls as the class
91, but no motors or pantograph. The locomotive (the class 91) is always at
the north end of the train. All of the trains pictured were operated
by GNER before it lost its franchise in late 2007. The franchise is now operated
by National Express Eastcoast.
